Riot Games is making significant changes to most tank items and nerfing the majority of Legendary items in League of Legends.
As Preseason 2025 approaches, Riot has shared details about some upcoming adjustments. These changes include not just updates to champions like Swain and Aphelios, who will receive long-awaited modifications, but also a rework to the bounty system, which will now be based on players’ gold.
Additionally, Teleport is set to undergo some major changes. However, the most intriguing shift might be the overhaul of items in the game.
For the past few months, Legendary items has been a widely discussed issue. A large portion of the League of Legends community believes these items are currently too powerful. Interestingly, Riot Games has acknowledged this feedback and agrees with the players’ concerns.
Although Riot previously tried to revamp items in 2020 and again at the beginning of Season 14, these efforts fell short of expectations. But it seems Riot is making another attempt, and this time they are focusing on reducing the power level of most Legendary items.
In a recent video titled “An Update on Some Projects,” Riot Phreak provided a glimpse into the changes coming to League of Legends, including significant adjustments to Legendary items.
Changes to Legendary Items
Here’s a breakdown of the changes coming to Legendary items later this year:
- Simplification: Legendary items will become more streamlined and simplified. For example, Burst AP items will now focus only on core stats like AP and Magic Penetration. It will no longer have extra stats such as Movement Speed, making items more specialized and straightforward.
- Item Efficiency: Riot believes that many current Legendary items are too powerful because they offer too many stats. In response, they plan to reduce the number of stats these items provide.
- Tank Items: Riot feels that tank items are underwhelming at present. As a result, they plan to make tank items more viable and impactful for these champions.
- Nerfing Legendary Items: Riot has repeatedly mentioned that Legendary items are too strong in their current form. In response, they are going to nerf 95% of these items across the game.
These are the changes Riot has announced so far. The exact release date for these item changes hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Riot has indicated that they will be rolled out sometime after Patch 14.19. Players can expect the updates later in the year, just in time for Preseason 2025.
