The League of Legends team has exciting plans to integrate champions from their other Runeterra-based IPs. These plans were unveiled alongside a series of significant changes announced for Season 2024, encompassing new items, void jungle camps, and alterations to the map.
Amidst these substantial updates comes the introduction of Hwei, the latest champion set to grace the Rift, touted as one of the more intricate champions to join the League of Legends roster.
Hwei, as the 166th champion in the League, underscores Riot’s unwavering commitment to continually introducing new champions. With the recent surge in investment in the game’s lore through TV series Arcane, Riot Forge, and LoR, players have been speculating about the possibility of champions from other titles making their way into League of Legends.
LoL devs to introduce new champions from different titles
In a recent interview with Dot Esports, champion product lead Lexi Gao shared insights into these speculations. Gao disclosed that the League of Legends devs indeed have concrete plans to incorporate champions from their diverse range of IPs into the game. Notably, champions like Yone and Senna initially debuted as Legends of Runeterra cards before seamlessly transitioning into League of Legends.
The process of bringing champions over from the card game, however, is more intricate than it may appear. Gao explained that the team responsible for Legends of Runeterra evaluates champions from a card game perspective, making the translation into the dynamic and fast-paced environment of League of Legends.
Despite the complexity of this, Gao reassured players that the challenging journey is deemed worthwhile. It aligns with Riot’s overarching strategy to offer a cohesive and immersive experience across all their diverse gaming titles.
This move reflects the studio’s commitment to not only enriching the League of Legends universe but also creating a seamless and interconnected gaming experience for players across various platforms and games. As the League of Legends landscape continues to evolve, the prospect of champions from different IPs converging onto the Rift adds an exciting dimension to the game’s future.
