Riot Games’ caster on Gen.G picking Renekton: “That champion is not good”

Gen.G being somewhat conservative when it comes to consistently picking Renekton is part of the reason why they lost the decisive game against EDward Gaming.

DWG KIA’s opponent in the 2021 Worlds Finals was chosen after EDward Gaming overcame Gen.G in a tight 3-2 match. The last LPL representative in the semifinals showed a better ability to handle the match than Gen.G in the 5th game with the excellent performance of JieJie and Meiko with Jarvan IV, Leona.

As for Gen.G, this team received relatively harsh criticism from Riot Games analysts after the last semi-final. Specifically, caster Chronicler said that Gen.G did not learn that Renekton was a bad champion and lost game 5 in a very regrettable way.

“The Renekton, the Azir, the random choices, the flips for objectives and the worst part is Gen.G will never learn because they have gotten so good at it”

“We see them try, a draft that I think is really cool which is Seraphine and then it doesn’t work and what they do? They go back to Renekton, that champion is not good, it should not work, it gets dove early but teams keep walking into them, keep giving them the opportunity to come back and then they win”

Indeed, going back at game 5 of the semifinals, we can see that the LPL representative appears to have planned out every possible strategy to defeat Renekton.

EDG has been preparing the picks with great control and a decent distance in the game since the first selection, such as Jhin, Leona, and Jarvan IV. Graves was chosen before Gen.G chose Renekton because the EDG believed the opponent would undoubtedly pick the champion again to counter Graves.

Rascal’s Renekton became useless to Viper and Scout as a result of this continual kite during combat. As a result, Gen.G’s pick of Renekton did not work. It’s natural why Gen.G. failed when playing in such a 4-on-5 situation towards the end of the match.

All in all, Gen.G is still a very good team with outstanding players such as Bdd, Ruler, and Clid, making them a difficult opponent in the LCK. Hopefully, the loss will teach Gen.G the necessary lessons for next season’s draft team.
