Riot Games to Reboot Viktor’s Controversial Updates Following Fan Backlash

Viktor mains are facing a turbulent time in League of Legends, as Riot Games navigates the storm of fan feedback following the Machine Herald’s recent updates.
During a recent livestream, Riot co-founder Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill hinted at possible changes to the controversial visual and gameplay update (VGU) aimed at aligning Viktor’s design with his appearance in Arcane season 2.

This VGU, however, hasn’t landed well with the core fanbase. Many players have taken to the subreddit to voice their frustration, arguing that Riot prioritized Arcane viewers over the champion’s long-time supporters.
The backlash intensified once Viktor’s rework was released on the Public Beta Environment (PBE). Fans particularly criticized how skins like Creator Viktor and his Death Sworn skin had altered the champion’s iconic physique, leaving him with a leaner frame.

On a livestream, Merrill responded to a concerned Viktor player, acknowledging the “not great skin execution” and confirming that Riot is actively reviewing feedback on the changes.
Riot has since rolled out tweaks to his appearance on these skins, making his physique more prominent again. Riot Pabro also hinted at these adjustments in a Dec. 4 post on Twitter.

Balancing the expectations of the divided fanbase—those loyal to his original design and those captivated by his Arcane portrayal—will be no easy feat. The long-time fans argue that their champion didn’t need a drastic overhaul, while Arcane fans defend the changes as a tribute to the animated series. Riot’s challenge now lies in finding a middle ground to satisfy both groups.
With further updates likely on the horizon, the future of Viktor remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Riot is listening.
