Riot Games – TFT Set 9 will be the ‘beginning of a new era’

Riot Games has been gradually expanding the Teamfight Tactics team since the release of Set Five. According to the lead game designer Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer, the impending Set Nine would bring a new era to TFT.

TFT Set 9 to begin a new era

Set Eight/8.5 Monsters’ Attack is coming to an end, with the NA Regional Finals at the weekend and the EMEA Regional Finals concluding on May 15.

The meta balance has reached peak after the Mid-Set update, with Patch 13.10 likely featuring a limited number of minor modifications ahead of the World Championship from May 26 to 28.

The increasing TFT team is responsible for the majority of Set Eight/8.5’s success. Monsters’ Attack will also mark the “end of an era” for the autobattler, according to Riot Mortdog.

“Monsters’ Attack is kind of the last set in our minds before our team got really big”

“you’re going to see a shift in Set development where Monsters’ Attack was kind of an end of an era and the next Set is the beginning of a new era where it’s amazing what we can do with a lot more people.”

At the time of writing, nothing is known about Set Nine. However, one adjustment has already demonstrated what a large TFT team can do over prior sets.

Patch 13.9 introduced Portals in Normals mode, signalling a shift in the “for fun” patches. In Stages 2-6, 3-3, and 4-3, portals may open, revealing extra orbs, items,…. The contents of portals will vary depending on location.

Not to mention, Riot intends to discontinue Mid-Set updates following the completion of Set Nine, ushering in a new era for TFT that will include 4 sets. Riot will invest in lengthier production durations to boost the quality of each TFT Set release, double the amount of players are used to receiving in a year.
