Following significant feedback and criticism from the League of Legends community, Riot Games has responded by implementing updates to Viktor’s VGU skins in the Public Beta Environment (PBE). These changes aim to address concerns raised by players who were dissatisfied with the initial reveal of the updated skins, specifically Death Sworn Viktor and Creator Viktor.
A Champion from the Early Days of League
In Preseason 11, Riot overhauled Viktor’s core gameplay by replacing the Prototype Hex Core with Hex Fragments. This change allowed him to evolve his abilities without needing to purchase a specific item, modernizing his kit to better fit the current game. Despite these updates, Viktor’s visual and thematic design has remained largely unchanged for over a decade.
With the rising popularity of the Netflix series Arcane, which featured Viktor as one of its central characters, Riot recognized an opportunity to bring the champion’s visuals and identity in line with the show. The long-awaited Viktor VGU was revealed, coinciding with the upcoming release of Arcane Season 2. While many players praised the rework for its overall improvements, others expressed dissatisfaction with changes to certain skins.
Death Sworn Viktor: The Return of the Mask
One of the skins that drew the most backlash was Death Sworn Viktor. In its original version, this skin featured a distinctive and edgy mask that many players found iconic. The mask’s removal in the updated skin led to widespread disappointment, with many fans voicing their frustrations about losing a key element that defined the skin’s appeal.
In response, Riot has restored the mask to Death Sworn Viktor in the PBE. Additionally, the updated version now features several tweaks, including a more pronounced glow on Viktor’s extra hand and enhanced detailing around the hood. These adjustments aim to preserve the skin’s original dark and mysterious aesthetic while incorporating the improved visuals of the VGU.
Creator Viktor: Subtle but Effective Enhancements
While Creator Viktor did not undergo as drastic a transformation as Death Sworn Viktor, Riot made thoughtful adjustments to address player concerns. The updated skin now boasts darker color grading, with enhanced detailing on Viktor’s coat to give it a more refined appearance. The vibrant red accents on the skin have also been made more prominent, adding depth and contrast to the overall design.
These changes, though subtle, contribute to a more polished and visually striking version of Creator Viktor.
A Step Toward Community Engagement
Riot’s decision to revisit and update these skins highlights the developer’s commitment to listening to community feedback and refining its content. The updates to Death Sworn Viktor and Creator Viktor reflect an effort to strike a balance between modernizing the champion and respecting the elements that players have cherished for years.
With the Viktor VGU shaping up to be a significant milestone for the champion, these updates signal a positive direction for Riot’s approach to champion reworks.
