Promotion series have crashed a lot of keyboards, screens and mouses since they were created, so this is definitely a good news for the majority of LoL players.
Cody “Codebear” Germain, Product Lead for Competitive Gameplay on League of Legends, has discussed about the present condition as well as future plans about Ranking system in the post published on LoL homepage last night (01/6).
And according to Codebear, promotion series will be got rid of from the next season! “Toward the goal of improving progression satisfaction and skill expression in our systems, it’s looking likely that we’ll be removing inter-division promotions to reduce frustration of seemingly hitting a wall when you know you’ve been playing well” – Codebear said. Besides bringing pretty useful information, Codebear also informed that the development team is keeping an eye on inter-division demotion protections to make sure that players are able to get where they should be in both directions without false limitations. All in all, if players’ rank can be promoted without promotion series, inter-division demotion protections will also have to be adjusted.
A long time ago, the LoL community requested Riot Games to get rid of promotion series. They have been said to be the main reason which turns the whole ranking progress of a lot of players into nothing, especially when they are unfortunate or dealing with trolling or AFK players.
Riot is also planning to adjust the queue including Ranked Informed Matchmaking and Transparency to improve organized group play like Clash or Flex. Maybe promotion series will disappear next season but the final decision is not published yet. As a result, from now to the end of this season, you still need to experience promotion series (Bo3/Bo5) if you want you want to want to improve your rank.
