Changes to XP and Gold will be made in the upcoming League of Legends Preseason Update.
League of Legends will see a lot of additions and adjustments in the 2023 Preseason Update. The major modifications include those to Chemtech, the new Ping system, the voting feature, new products, improvements to the jungle, etc. The majority of modifications aim to shake things up in the game and modify how players approach it.
These modifications are significant because they will alter the League of Legends environment in 2023. In a similar vein, entering the preseason, testing out the new changes, and enjoying the game are all exciting aspects of League of Legends. Riot’s decision to implement the changes during the preseason is justified because they will be perfected by the time the actual season begins.
The total XP and Gold adjustments obtained from various positions are one of the features of the improvements coming to League of Legends. When Riot makes these adjustments, they often anticipate some growing pains and further fine-tuning. Here are the changes to XP and Gold that will be implemented in Preseason 2023.
Changes in XP and Gold gain
Gold and XP modifications are being made to several game parts. The adjustments to the various aspects of the games are described in detail here. A Reddit Post nicely organizes the changes. Let’s start with lane changes and then move on to jungle modifications because the changes are in distinct roles.
Lane XP and Gold gain
In the middle and top lanes, XP and Gold are changing. The mid lane has historically been where most gold has been found, however, the XP adjustment has an impact on both the mid and top lanes. As for the modifications:
Turret Gold gain
Turret Plate Gold is being changed from 160 gold to 175 gold each.
Champions who are assertive will benefit from the gold turret plate change. However, the final 2-3 plates will be more difficult to remove because of the increasing MR/Armor of the turret. As it deals real damage to turrets, Rift Herald will play a significant role in this. Playstyles used in the early game will profit from this.
Mid-lane Changes
- For the first 14 minutes of the game, each Mid Lane Minion will grant 1 fewer gold. The -10 gold from cannon minions in the mid-lane is increased by -1 gold.
- Mid Lane will earn 95% XP as opposed to 93% XP.
The mid-lane gold changes are not particularly significant because the overall loss is not very great. Even though the mid-lane is getting a minor XP boost, it naturally prevents mid-laners from spiking earlier. The slight increase in XP and the slight decrease in gold should balance each other out for the mid-lane.
Top-lane Changes
Top Lane will receive 95% XP instead of 93% XP.
As the lead is a little bigger, the top lane mirrors mid-lane XP changes, which should hasten top lane breakpoints.
Jungle XP and Gold gain
Numerous adjustments are being made to the jungle, such as a shorter leash range and the introduction of pets. Let’s start with each one individually.
Gold and XP gain with new Pets and Jungle Item
- The player receives one treat for the jungle at 2:30 in the game and one treat per minute after that (treats stack up). The pet is fed a treat that yields 50 gold each time a huge monster (the big monster in the camp) is destroyed. A treat is distributed every 1:30 minutes rather than every minute at the top tier of jungle items.
- The bonus XP earned from jungle-themed products and animals has been raised from 60 to 75 XP.
Inherently, junglers will gain more gold throughout the duration of the game. But in terms of a single gain, it is not much. However, it is a significant quantity of gold, for instance in a 30-minute game. It is more upfront XP for junglers to start leveling and keeping up with the changes in XP.
Camp updates
- Krugs, Wolves, and Raptors produce less gold and XP.
- Overall, jungle camps have less XP to compensate for the 15 Bonus XP gained due to jungle items.
- Gold is being reduced in all camps to compensate for the gold earned from pet treats.
The modifications made to each camp are in line with the rise in XP and gold awarded by the jungle items and pets. As the modifications reach the live servers, though, fine-tuning will be necessary. We can only hope that the balancing will be completed by the end of the preseason.
