Riot Games is looking into new themes for League of Legends skin lines after presenting the Faerie Court to fans earlier this month
Rioters Brightmoon and Meddler talk all things skins as we approach mid-season and mid-year in a new League of Legends dev update video.
Riot Meddler explained that the developers are always investigating new skin thematics for League, with the next one coming up this May, using the Faerie Court skin line as an example. Riot will release a creative new skin theme to honour the year’s first international event in the hopes of enthralling MSI fans.
“We’ve got a couple of new themes that we’re exploring for larger events coming in the moderate future”,
Along with the Worlds 2020 winners’ skins, a Conqueror skin and its Prestige edition were introduced for the tournament in 2021. In 2021, the MSI was commemorated with new High Noon skins, as well as the long-awaited release of the Dplus KIA (then DWG KIA) Worlds 2021 champion skins. With Worlds skins traditionally falling around MSI, we can anticipate the arrival of DRX’s skin soon.
Given that Riot is working on a new thematic in connection to the “large event” that is MSI, League fans may soon see an esport-related skin line.
Having said that, the skin thematics to which Meddler alludes are entirely new, rather than a return to an established line. Whatever these themes are, three of the game’s earliest champions are likely to receive them, with Meddler stating that Dr. Mundo, Shyvana, and Udyr will all receive new skins shortly.
Furthermore, Riot Meddler verified the debut of the summer event for 2023, which will include new skin thematics similar to MSI. As a result, the Pool Party skin line is unlikely to be included in the event, as they were debuted over a decade ago.
More information should be released in the near future from Riot so stay tuned.
