The Vigilant Wardstone is currently one of the items with lowest purchase rate in League of Legends.
Since its debut in Season 11, the Vigilant Wardstone has consistently been one of the lowest purchase rate items in the game. Many gamers are not even knowing about the existence of this item as well. According to stats from LeagueofGraphs, this item is having below 0.1% purchase rate in the game in all matches, which made it the most “useless” item in the current meta game.
One reason for this can be the level 13 requirement for Support to buy this item. As Support is one of the roles that benefit less from experience than others, it will usually be very hard for the SPs to reach level 13 since they constantly have to move and roam across the map to provide both vision and secure objectives during the game. Once they reach the level 13 requirement, however, there are just better item options that is far better than the Vigilant Wardstone for them to buy.
As a respond to this phenemenon, Riot Games is testing a newer version on the PBE server which allowed players to buy an earlier version of the Vigilant Wardstone from level 1. The new item added is called “Watchful Wardstone”, which provides 150 bonus health and 10 ability haste and can store up to 3 control wards inside it. Once the player had completed the Support quest and Reach level 13, it will be transformed into Vigilant Watchstone without paying any extra gold.
The Vigilant Watchstone now can not be purchased normally anymore, however, Riot Games add extra stats into its passive. The item will now provide a 12% extra Ability Haste, Ability Power, bonus Attack Damage, and bonus Health to its owner together with the passive “Behold” which increases the placement cap for both Control Wards and Stealth Wards by 1.
With this changes, the Support meta can be completely changed as the Watchful Wardstone is now a must for all SPs. Its early extra health and bonus ability haste proves to be too good with the price of 1100, furthermore, when reaching the late game stage of a match, the SPs will now be even stronger when it is transfromed into the Vigilant Wardstone and provide them tons of extra stats. The increase placement cap will also open up more strategy diversity in the game while help the SP a little more in the vision ward toward late game.
These changes can make Vigilant Wardstone one of the strongest items in this Season as it fixed all of the item’s previous problem and provided it more opportunity and utility in the game. If these changes work well in the PBE for the next few weeks, we are expected to see the rework of Vigilant Wardstone in the upcoming Patch 11.11 Note.
