Riot tackles snowballing in the League, plans to provide more comeback mechanics this year’s preseason.

League of Legends has long kept up the concept of snowballing—the team are losing behind cannot fight back–has been a long-standing concern in the League of Legends. However, during and after season11, Riot said they are working to solve this problem and to provide some ways to continue giving all teams an opportunity to fight.

Andre “Meddler” van Roon, the League game director, revealed in a recent “lol pls” video that snowballing rates were consistently remained during both the preseason and early season 11. Even so, the team thinks the situation should be more watched closely. So the emphasis on comeback mechanics will be enhanced this year’s pre-season.

“We particularly want to address cases where you’re behind and it feels a bit hopeless,” Meddler said. “We’re exploring ways to give a losing team plays they can try and make when things aren’t going their way.”

Meddler explained in a second part of the video of Dev that the new Mythic items have played a large role in the strengthening abilities of some champion classes, making playing against them almost impossible without relying on farming to build your own items. The shortcomings of other class Mythic items often make teams be unable to compete while they are behind.

Meddler also admitted that sometimes the losing side understands their winning conditions, but that it revolves around waiting for the other team to make a mistake move. However, this opportunity moment may not happen until the match finishes while in a meta in which games are getting quicker and play is nearly non-stop.

For the time being, thus, snowball in League is a great concern. But Riot plans to cope with that could make it winning again for games that look lost. Additional detail will probably be given before approaching the next preseason at the end of 2021.
