Is another new champion on the way?
Riot Games’ recent video announcing League of Legends’ upcoming Sentinels of Light event may have offered fans a sneak glimpse at the third new champion set to debut during the Viego storyline event.
Back in January, lead champion producer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles excited League fans by revealing that three new champions will be linked to the overall Viego story and his rise to power in Runeterra with the Black Mist. The first was an AP-based top laner named Gwen, the second was a new marksman named Akshan, and the third was a “gloomy” yordle mage.
The final image seen at the end of the “Rise of the Sentinels” lore video, when Akshan briefly summarizes the scenario around Viego’s revolt, is a group of champions standing together. There, we witness Olaf fighting a horde of undead, Riven standing with a chain around her hand, a dragon that we believe is Ruined Shyvana, Draven, and an unnamed figure.
The character does not resemble any of the game’s current champions, and they are definitely a yordle. As a result, there is much conjecture that this is the next yordle mage slated to be released during the Ruination plotline.
The new champion was scheduled to be released after Gwen, but Riot “needed a bit more time in development as we needed to create some new tech to visually sell her source of power.” She has also been removed from the artillery mage role and is now a more basic mage.
Riot stated that she would play a significant part in Runeterra lore and the continuing fight between the Sentinels and the Ruination. We don’t know when she’ll be able to enter Summoner’s Rift and join the fight for the light.
The Sentinels of Light event kicks off on Thursday, July 8th, with the release of League Patch 11.14.
