After competing at Worlds 2022, the reigning world champion ADC Ruler quit Gen.G. Despite winning the regular season championship with the squad, he will be moving in 2023.
For years, Park ‘Ruler’ Jae-hyuk has been regarded as one of the top ADCs in the world. He’s played at a high level ever since winning Worlds in 2017, and he ultimately won his first LCK title in 2022.
Gen.G wasn’t able to maintain that level of performance at Worlds 2022 despite their victory in the LCK. On their way to the Semifinals, they narrowly defeated DWG KIA, but ultimately lost to DRX. At the time, that was seen as them underperforming, but now that DRX has won the championship, things aren’t quite so clear-cut.
Regardless, he officially left Gen.G after their performance at Worlds. He has made the decision not to sign a new contract with the company, and he will start looking for a new team in 2023.
The only thing that could have matched Gen.G’s regular season success was to win the entire tournament, therefore it may seem strange to label a Semifinals run at Worlds as a failure. Teams who they easily defeated at home defeated them in Worlds, and Gen.G was unable to help Ruler win his second global championship.
Ruler’s jersey number is being retired in order to recognize his contributions to the team, according to Gen.G, who also released a film detailing Ruler’s accomplishments inside the company.
Although it is unknown which club this talented ADC player will join, given that he recently won the domestic championship, he is sure to be a hot commodity in the off-season.
