Secrets of the 10 Ancient Demons in League of Legends Universe

So far, out of ten demons of Runeterra, seven have appeared in League of Legends (including Yone, the latest champion release)

Similar to the extremely famous legend of the 7 sins, League of Legends also has their legends about demons, with extremely close links between those demons in their own universe. So far, seven out of ten Demons have been confirmed to appear in the game, including Yone – the latest champion, and each demon has their very own fascinating characteristics. So let’s find out about the existed demons in Runeterra!

Fiddlesticks (The Demon of Fear)

During Fiddlesticks rework project, Riot Games had officially released a small edition called “Demonology” on their Facebook official story page, specifically it was a chart called “Demonic Compendium.” The post was an ancient documents that contains details about Runeterra’s ten ancient demons, in which Fiddlesticks was the first demon to ever been recorded by human literatures and tales.

This gruesome and haunting theory of League of Legends universe about this scary species has been made officially ever since. As the ancestor of demons and also, the first demon to ever appeared in the family tree, according to his short film which was published a while back, Fiddlestick can be described as the most accurate representation of Fears.

Without a form from the outset, the material nature of Fiddlesticks consists of the very “scraps” of the countless prey that he has devoured. Riot also clearly depicted the way in which hunts are performed by Fiddlestick, according to the video “Terror in Demacia”, in which we saw both of his preys were unable to resist but to only leave desperate cries.

Swain (Raum – The Demon of Deep Secrets)

The next branch of Demonology is the existence of Raum – The Demon of Deep Secrets. League of Legends fans have often assumed Swain as a vanquished, failed general, who ended up borrowing the power of a mysterious Demon to recover from his failures. Yet Riot did not give any information about the demon that Swain encountered in the Immortal Bastion. Not even a certain name or theory was given, rendering anything about that demon has always been a mystery for many.

However, this was gradually revealed after the appearance of Fiddlesticks. Very likely to the other four demons, Fiddlestick can quickly recognized his fellow demons, and when it was Swain turn, the scarecrow realized that Raum was the source of the power that Swain possessed, this was hinted from the interaction lines between the two champions.

Judging from what was discovered by both Fiddlesticks and what we can found from the family tree, Raum is a demon that actually emerged for a really long time ago – possibly when Mordekaiser was still alive and Raum has been remaining until now.

As shown by the Demonology, Raum is a Great Earl of Hell, the 40th of Solomon’s 72 demons. His past was an Angel named Thrones, according to old records, after his fall, he became an earl-level dark demon, who was able to take control of upto 30 demon corps. When it is needed or because of his summoner’s order, Raum can shifts between his human form and a giant crow.

He has a voice that resounds like thunder, he knows everything about the past, the present, the future and he can resolve any conflicts between his enemies. He often destroys villages and cities; causes discord; steals any king’s treasure and takes it to the place that no one knows, except him.

Some theories say that Swain tricked Raum and sealed it off to use his power, but the strength of these ancient demons was virtually limitless, and was it really fair if Swain easily controlled the demon? Or does the demon use Swain as a tool for his return?

Shaco (Delirium – The Demon of Obtuse)

Born at the same time as Raum, Delirium may have been around for quite a time that the entire world of Runeterra was still shaping. The enchanted puppet Shaco was presented as a gift that was made to a lonely prince long ago, now is obsessed with murdering and chaos. Corrupted by dark sorcery, he finds happiness over the pain of the wretched poor souls.

Shaco was demonstaed as an entity object that has been inhabited by dark magic, which maybe in a same way that Raum existed in Swain’s body. Not just that, with the specifics of him being the first devil in the shape of a murdering clown to ever appeared on Valoran, it also revealed that Delirium is a long-appeared demon, who is much older – to compare to the following demons such as Tahm Kench or Evelynn.

Tahm Kench (Addiction – The Demon of Greed)

Coming to the 3rd branch of the Demonology, we have Demons that has developed extremely intelligent and rational ways of “hunting” compare to theirs predecessors. And no-one else can suit the Title the Demon of Greed more than Tahm Kench with the way he flirts with his preys. Deceiving, and gnawing gradually with the bottomless greed of the victim, he slowly approached them, giving them false guide and eventually, ending their lives in miserable ways.

The demon Tahm Kench, known throughout history by numerous names, travels across the Runeterra, feeding his insatiable hunger with the suffering of others. One thing is quite surprising, however, although it is a demon of greed, Tahm Kench is quite a “picky” prey than the rest of the demon when only “target” people have greed in their souls. Even then these are all stories being told, the proportion of fact remains a major question mark over these tales.

Evelynn (Agony – The Demon of Pain)

Is a demon that was born in an indeterminate form after the Rune Wars, only knowing that she is a kind of hungry parasite spirit which can consumes most essential part of human emotions to growth and for her existence. Description of how pleased she was while witnessing other creatures’ sufferings proved that Evelynn is The Demon born of Pain (Agony). Her life is an endless circle: identifying her prey – flirting with them – giving the preys what they want – torturing them with the same thing that satisfied them and end up – devouring them.

However, Evelynn and Tahm Kench are the most rational demons that had learned how to seduce their preys and how to make the preys taste best, instead of playing “hide and seek” or scaring them in terrifying ways as Fiddlesticks. Evelynn doesn’t fear of transforming to show off her beautiful curves, welcoming every gentleman that catch her gaze.

Evelynn could not resist her own urges and was actively using her seductive shape to please her preys and herself. Essentially, though, Evelynn is just searching for agony and having a pretty body is actually, a perfect tool for her to get more victims falling into the pit.

Nocturne (The Demon of Nightmares)

Nocturne is a sign of terror as well as a dream destroyer whose name simply couldn’t be consistently suitable any better for the horror of nightmares. Apart from Tahm Kench and Evelynn, Nocturne was also acknowledged and identified by Fiddlesticks through interactions between the two.

Walking out of the nightmares, haunting the minds of all living beings, Nocturne is the primordial power of utter fear, the embodiment of madness, a cold-eyed, faceless phantom holding strange swords. Summoned at the outbreak of the Rune Wars, Nocturne slowly took shape and became a demon that draws in will, infecting them with deep nightmares in their minds, forcing them to commit horrific crimes with their fellows.

Even Nocturnes was weakened for a time after the end of the Rune Wars, now he is able to emerge again in the universe, awakening and turning dreams into everlasting, true nightmares.

Yone (Azakana – The Demon of Negative)

As the latest champion to appear in League of Legends, Yone is the next host of an ancient evil, haunted by the image of a swordsman using duo swords. Yone met an enigmatic demon in the final segment of his journey, As showed in “The Path, An Ionian Myth,” the 2020 Spirit Blossom Animated Trailer. If we concentrate more closely, we can see that Yone ‘s previous journey was very gentle before he realized his own death.

Yone grabbed the demon sword during the fight and sent a death blow to the enigmatic demon, seemingly finished the enemy, not knowing that the true disaster also occurred, he suddenly turned back became a prey of an Azakana, a demon that consumes negative emotional states. The Azakana is a species of demons which are smaller than beings such as Evelynn or Tahm Kench. And while the above two reflect primal emotions such as lust and addiction, Azakana represents more specific, personal feelings like stingings of consciousness, fears of being forgotten, etc.

Azakanas has almost always been existed previously, but their numbers recently soared in Ionia because of the pain that the war with Noxus had planted in this land. Chasing the Azakanas is not an easy mission, even for a Swordsman who was once killed and had stolen an Azakana.

Jhin (Frenzy – The Demon of Madness)

The first one on the list of the three mysterious Demons left – according to the Demonology is the Demon of madness. Although it is still a mystery and there are not too many details about whether Jhin is involved in demon genealogy or not, when thinking about the madness in League of Legends, no one can surpass the Golden Emperor Demon.

A very plausible theory has been put forward for Jhin is that he was possessed by Frenzy and turned into a mad man with a bit of obsession and confusion. This is considered an unsubstantiated hypothesis since Jhin as a small theater builder could never make it that hard for Guinsoo nor Zed and Shen – such strong and intelligent shinobis to chase and defeat him. Even so, these are still hypotheses, and it is possible that the Demon of Madness will soon be revealed by Riot, like Yone was.

The Demon of Bliss and Obsession

The 2 last Demons of Bliss and Obsession must be waited for quite a time. The Demon of Bliss could probably be a pretty hot female Champion and have some certain resemblance to Evelynn when its theme is about seeking pains that are based on human bodily desires.

Meanwhile, in the case of Obsession, this is still, a very mysterious name, one thing for sure is that, this demon has caused some horrifying obsession for Runeterra like… Yasuos in our team for example. Maybe we still need to wait for Riot Games to fully reveal this entire genealogy of League of Legends.
