Riot Games has revealed that Summoner’s Rift will be getting a visual update in League of Legends to coincide with Arcane Season 2.
Summoner’s Rift, the iconic map of League of Legends, has been part of the game since its launch in 2009. While it has undergone some visual upgrades over the years, it has never seen a full-scale overhaul. The most recent change to the map occurred earlier this year with minor adjustments made to improve game balance.
In the early years of League, Riot often revamped the map’s appearance for major events, with the winter-themed map during Christmas being one of the most memorable.
However, Riot has scaled back these seasonal changes in recent years. Nowadays, small visual updates still happen, particularly during the annual Worlds Championship, when banners and flags are added to the Rift.
One of the most significant visual changes in recent history came with the release of Arcane, when Riot gave Summoner’s Rift a Hextech-themed makeover to promote the series. For Arcane Season 2, this Arcane-inspired version of Summoner’s Rift will return, along with a new map variant for ARAM.
Back in 2021, during Arcane’s initial release, Riot introduced a Hextech-themed version of Summoner’s Rift. Although it wasn’t a major overhaul, it featured distinct visual changes, such as Hextech-themed Nexus, Turrets, Inhibitors, and Minions.
Though no specific release date has been confirmed for this updated Arcane map, it is expected to arrive with patches 14.23 or 14.24, scheduled for November 20, 2024, and December 11, 2024, respectively.
