This isn’t the first time this season that T1 has benefited from cases of COVID-19 from their opponents
Kwangdong Freecs had to break terrible news to the fan community shortly after winning 3-2 over DRX to proceed to the LCK Spring 2022 semifinals. Yoo “FATE” Su-hyeok tested positive with COVID-19 only one day before the 2022 LCK Spring playoff match between Kwangdong Freecs and league favorites T1. According to the organization, the mid laner has a “strong will” to participate and is not suffering from significant COVID symptoms other than light cold symptoms.
Nonetheless, according to the recently introduced LCK regulations prior to the playoffs, FATE will still be permitted to participate in this match, but in a separate isolation zone, while the player’s four teammates will continue to play live. Although this is not a replacement, it is still regarded as a disadvantage for KDF when faced against an undefeated T1 this season.
Meanwhile, T1 has the benefit of the opponent’s cases once more. Earlier in the group stage, the team faced opponents that had tightened up their roster due to COVID-19, such as two games against Gen.G or Fredit BRION’s.
If FATE is unable to play due to COVID-19, Freecs will most likely request that the game be postponed. However, this may not be an option at the semifinals. The T1 vs. Freecs match is set to begin on Saturday, March 26 at 17:00. DWG KIA will meet Gen.G in the second semifinal of the LCK spring playoffs on Sunday at the same hours for a position in the finals.
