T1 Welcomes Mata Back as Coach Ahead of 2024 Season
Fresh off their 2024 Worlds triumph, T1 has bolstered their coaching staff by bringing on a familiar face: Mata, the legendary LCK support and 2014 Worlds champion with Samsung White. Announced on Nov. 21 via the team’s official X account, the organization revealed,
“Mata has joined T1’s LCK team as a coach. Show your support as he returns to help shape the team’s future”.
Mata’s return to T1 comes after the departure of coach Roach, who stepped down due to mandatory military service. As a seasoned coach, Mata brings invaluable experience to the roster. He previously helped Gen.G secure the LCK Spring 2024 championship, even defeating the team in the process, and also coached Royal Never Give Up in the LPL. Now, the 2014 World Champion is back at one of his former stomping grounds, ready to help T1 chase the elusive Worlds three-peat.
Mata, whose real name is Cho Se-hyeong, has been a cornerstone of the League of Legends scene since his debut in 2012. Just two years into his career, he etched his name into history as part of Samsung White’s iconic Worlds 2014 roster, widely regarded as one of the greatest teams ever. Known for his impeccable support play, Mata transitioned to coaching after his playing career, which included a stint with T1 between 2018 and 2019.
As T1 looks to make history by securing their third consecutive Worlds title, Mata’s return could be the boost the team needs. With his championship pedigree and years of experience, he’s poised to help guide to even greater heights in 2025.
Fans are eagerly watching to see if this reunion can lead to another chapter of dominance for the team on the global stage.
