Recently, ESPN posted League of Legends global power rankings through July 13 and surprisingly, T1 disappeared from Top 10 and the community seemed quite angry about this. Although they lost against Team Dynamics last week, it was absolutely nonsense for T1 to be placed like that.
As you know, professional leagues for LoL worldwide has gone through a half of group-stage period and we can possibly figure out which team will achieve the domestic championship as well as a ticket to the 2020 Worlds.
2 days ago, ESPN – one of the most famous sports channel in the world, published the rankings of global LoL teams after a half of group-stage period and received a lot of disagreements from the community. The rage came from 2 reasons: the favortism for European teams and low rankings for Korean ones and T1 was not an exception. Here are the global rankings of ESPN:
1.TOP Esports
2. Victory Five
3. MAD Lions
4. DragonX
5. Cloud9
6. Rogue
7. Damwon Gaming
8. FunPlus Phoenix
9. Invictus Gaming
10. JD Gaming
And about the rest of the world:
There is no doubt that TOP Esports is the most powerful team in the world at present because they have been nearly unstoppable since the beginning of LPL and they are now in the first place of LPL. However, according to what we mentioned before, the favortism for European teams is so huge that as you can see in the rankings, MAD Lions is even stronger than DragonX, Damwon Gaming, Funplus Phoenix and these rankings are completely unacceptable. But the story has not finished yet. If you are a big fan of SKT, how did you feel when you saw SKT was in the 14th place? So unfair, wasn’t it? And unsurprisingly, so did the community.
The community’s comments on Twitter:
The rankings of ESPN was just an example of ones which caused a wide range of disagreements as there is no systems to place global teams’ power correctly. Actually we do not need that system because the ultimate purpose of tournaments is the championship, so we will literally get nowhere if we just care about these “ridiculous” rankings!
