T1, the LCK representative, is making significant adjustments in preparation for Worlds 2022
Following their loss against Royal Never Give Up at MSI 2022, T1 has struggled to keep alive after a remarkable unbeaten LCK Spring Split run. Now, one month before World Championship 2022, following their 0-3 loss to Gen.G in the LCK Summer Split final, the 3-time World Champions have made a significant change to their head coach.
CEO Joe Marsh recently discussed the future of head coach Choi “Polt” Seong-hun in a Twitter post. Polt will now serve as general manager for the League of Legends program as a whole, overseeing the rosters of the LCK, LCK Challengers, T1 Rookies, and Esports Academy.
“I have made the difficult decision to move Choi “Polt” Seong-hun out of his position as head coach.”
“The results of the LCK final have no bearing on my decision since I was set on making the changes no matter the result.”
“I am thankful to Polt for everything he has done as he was able to shine light on a dark time during Summer 2021, and the team would not be where they are now without his efforts,”
In favor of Polt, Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, the three-time World Champion and coach, will be appointed to interim head coach for T1’s Worlds 2022.
Joe Marsh believes Bengi’s experience as a Worlds competitor will help them win a fourth World Championship title. The veteran has been coaching the T1 Challengers and LCK groups for around two years.
Aside from Bengi’s rise, the team also welcomes Kim “Sky” Ha-neul as their new Worlds coach. While Sky may be a fresh name to LCK fans, he has been mentoring the T1 Esports Academy for almost a year.
The team will be Korea’s second-seeded team at Worlds 2022, where they will compete for their fourth Worlds championship.
