The T1 streamer has made fans outraged after making a sensitive joke towards Faker
When it comes to League of Legends in particular and esports in general, Faker has always been known to be a living legend to all players and fans, his name and influence are out of discussion. Even China, the host country for the 2022 Asian Games, has also stated that Faker would play a role in making esports a competitive sport at the next Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou.
However, following the pause incident in the T1 – DK match, fans have developed conspiracy theories that the LCK is attempting to progressively reduce his influence in Korea.
Add to that, T1 streamer KorPick recently made a ‘sensitive’ joke towards him. Specifically, during re-streaming the T1 vs. Hanwha Life Esports match, KorPick commented: “Shouldn’t Faker retire? Perhaps Faker will only play for another two years. Who will be T1’s next mid-laner?”
When KorPick implies Faker’s retirement, he also provokes anger towards the fans. But it’s CEO Joe Marsh’s reaction to the situation that stands out. He stated that Faker “doesn’t watch his streams or care what is being said” and recommended fans to relax.
Obviously, it’s unlikely that a streamer would discuss the Eternal King retirement since the matter is frequently raised mostly by anti-fans. Fans also noted that, in his later apology broadcast, the streamer did not express his intentions and, in fact, showed no respect. Thus, making the T1 fans even angrier.
“Joe, as a T1 streamer it’s not appropriate. Behind Faker is an entite community. That’s a topic we are tired of seeing being brought up when it’s one that’s entirely at the player’s discretion. How can it come from, this time, from a T1 streamer? Our own org?” – A T1 fan said.
KorPick’s incident prompted fans to demand that the whole T1 streamer be replaced after the team caused too much negative impact. But, with the LCK’s icon still doing well and striving every day, it’s impossible to dismiss his efforts.
