The 2023 League of Legends World Championship, also known as Worlds 2023, is rapidly approaching
This year Worlds tournament marks the return of the game’s premier competition to South Korea for the first time since 2018. Worlds 2023 is set to take place from October 10 to November 19 and will be hosted across four locations in Seoul and Busan.
As the tournament draws closer, teams from all regions compete to participate in Worlds 2023. While some teams have already secured their spots, the majority of slots are still up for grabs.
Worlds 2023 will include 22 teams from nine different regions, with the LPL (China) and the LCK (Korea) being the only regions guaranteed to have four representatives each. Notably, Riot Games has made several changes to the tournament format, including replacing the round-robin group stage with a Swiss stage.
In the LCK, Gen.G secured the first seed by dominating the finals against T1, while T1 earned the second seed due to their high championship points. KT Rolster and Dplus claimed the third and fourth seeds respectively.
Meanwhile in the LEC, the playoffs are still ongoing. G2, MAD Lions, and Fnatic are currently competing for the first, second, and third seeds, while Team BDS holds the fourth seed after a loss to Fnatic. The top three seeds will participate in the Swiss stage at Worlds 2023, while Team BDS will have to wait until the Worlds Qualifier Series to potentially enter the Play-Ins.
The LCS (North America) playoffs have been full of surprises, with NRG emerging as the champions for the first time. Cloud9 secured the second seed as the runners-up, and Team Liquid claimed the third seed after losing to NRG. Golden Guardians, on the other hand, holds the fourth seed from the LCS.
NRG, Cloud9, and Team Liquid will compete in the Swiss Stage, while Golden Guardians will face Team BDS for a chance to enter the Play-Ins Stage at the tournament.
