Promotion Series between different Rank tiers will remained the same, however…
League of Legends players who enjoy proving themselves throughout ranking matches might be pleased to know that Riot Games is planning on eliminating inter-division promotion series from the game in pre-season 2021.
This indicates that players won’t have to play a series of three games in order to advance to their next division in the same Rank Tier. Since players have been complaining that these series between each division have been incredibly challenging and preventing them from going anywhere further.
According to an official announcement from Mark Yetter – League of Legends’s lead game desinger, the scenario of losing your promotion series twice in a row won’t be happening anymore in the 2021 Preseason.
“At best, they were a source of relief when you won and, at worst a source of major frustration when you were bounced out for the fifth time in a row,” Riot said. “We wanted to revisit the original decision and solve for unnecessary frustration and climbing blocks between solo and flex queues divisions.”
Riot will allow players to roll over their leftover LP from their ranks to the next Division. But also, the inter-devision protection won’t be there anymore. If you, in certain cases, hit zero LP during your game, you’re going to automatically drop down a division. This is intended to help keeping things aligned with ranks and the new “non-interdivision series” mechanic.
However, Promotion Series between different Rank tiers won’t be affected by this removal. If one player is about the rank up from Gold to Platinum, for example, they will still have to win 3 games in a 5 matches promotional series in order to make the jump to the next Rank Tier.
Let’s hope for League fans, this move will make players less of a stressful time when in-between divisions, while also offering a challenge when they cross the final hurdle to their next leap.
