Ranked Penalties are finally making their way to League of Legends in Patch 13.19
The game has long struggled with toxicity issues, with instances ranging from intentional game throwing for content creation to poor in-game behavior even among top professional players.
While existing systems have made some impact, they haven’t been enough. Riot has now introduced the Ranked Penalties system, set to debut in Patch 13.19.
LoL new Ranked Queue Penalty
“In 13.19 we’re adding new ranked queue penalties for most offenses. Offenders must play remedial games in a non-ranked queue with good behavior. These queues include Blind Pick, Draft Pick, ARAM, and the Rotating Game Mode queue.”
Under this new system, players who are identified as displaying toxic behavior in their recent matches will face the suspension of their access to the ranked queue. They will only regain this access once they successfully finish a series of corrective matches in non-ranked modes, demonstrating improved behavior.
When a player’s account incurs a Ranked Queue Penalty, they will be required to participate in remedial games within the non-ranked queues. Notably, the emphasis here is on displaying good behavior. This implies that players must actively enhance their conduct to regain eligibility for ranked play.
While this approach may not entirely eradicate toxicity in League of Legends, it represents a positive stride in the direction of creating a safer and more harmonious gaming environment for the player community.
Nonetheless, there is a concern among some players that pushing toxic individuals into casual game modes may result in adverse interactions, which could disrupt the experience for those who initially sought these modes as a refuge from the intensity and toxicity found in ranked gameplay.
League of Legends Patch 13.19 is expected to be released on Wednesday, September 27.
