DRX BeryL experimented with Twitch support on stage after witnessing Caitlyn and Kalista used as support champions in the LCK
DRX chose AP Twitch support versus Fredit BRION in the recent LCK Spring Split match, and as you may expect, things didn’t go as planned.
BeryL, the defending world champion, chose the LCK’s first-ever Twitch support in an attempt to apply pressure throughout the map with his stealth and long-range attacks.
DRX’s support BeryL locked in Twitch in Game 3 after all other ADC alternatives were selected or banned during champ select. BeryL attempted to innovate once again in such a high-stakes series by adding Twitch to Summoners’ Rift.
Unfortunately, the choice did not go as planned. BRO was extremely cautious and respected the Twitch selection, preventing BeryL from exploiting the potency of the champion pick.
Twitch roamed the map, attempting to build kill pressure in other lanes, eliciting a response from Effort, who was playing Nautilus.
The pick was doing its job in the opening 10 minutes of the game, creating havoc in Fredit BRION’s ranks. However, DRX’s composition—one tank and four ranged champions—failed poorly in the first teamfight. Effort and his squad destroyed the opposition team without losing a single kill. This teamfight immediately put DRX behind.
BRO swept over DRX, leaving only three kills to the opponent team and completing the game in less than 29 minutes, thanks to the 10-minute ace and a complete late-game scaling comp crafted by Zeri and Kassadin.
With this defeat, DRX falls to 1-3 in the rankings, while BRION maintains their strong start to the 2023 LCK Spring with a 3-1 record.
Twitch is a one-of-a-kind support choice who can abuse other teams when roaming in solo queue. Nonetheless, with pro players’ strong map awareness, it was nearly difficult to expect anything other than a loss for DRX.
