The North American League of Legends Twitch scene, according to Twitch star Tyler ‘Tyler1’ Steinkamp, has been effectively “killed” by Worlds 2022 as a result of the decline in streamers’ audience statistics. He also questioned whether League on Twitch as a whole was “dead.”
Tyler1 has developed a reputation for having some unkind things to say about League of Legends as a game, the programmers who created it, and the broadcasters of the well-liked MOBA.
His harsh remarks aren’t always unwarranted, though, as evidenced by his most recent outburst during a Twitch broadcast, where he complained about how the League of Legends Worlds 2022 tournament had truly had a negative impact on the North American Twitch streams.
On October 24, Tyler brought up how few people have been watching League streamers like ChaseShaco, Bobqin, and Tarzaned lately when he was live. and how the schedule problems caused by Worlds 2022 may have reduced their usual viewership.
Is League Twitch dead, as Tyler questioned? He said that data showed a 40% decrease in Worlds viewing from the previous year.
Esports Charts statistics show that between 37% and 41% fewer people watched the Worlds Group Stage.
Did Worlds in NA killed NA streaming as well? Nobody gets any viewers now. I was watching Bobqin like, ‘What the f*cks going on?’ I think it killed NA streaming because it’s a terrible timeslot.

The fact that people in Europe and Korea find it challenging to watch Worlds during the North American time slot is probably to blame for the drop in popularity.
The statistics appear to support the claim that Worlds affected the number of North American streamers. TwitchTracker reports a significant drop in Tarzaned’s audience, from 3,959 average viewers in September 2022 to 1,822 average viewers in October 2022.
League of Legends’ average Twitch viewership has been declining since January. League had an average of 248,000 concurrent viewers in the first month of 2022. The typical number in September was 159,000. Although October (so far) has increased to 220,000, it should be noted that Worlds are currently taking place.
