Popular League streamer Tyler1 tried to get himself blacklisted from betting websites since Riot refuses to do anything about the high-Elo bettors ruining his games

How the betting sites work
Most of the prominent ones are Chinese and you will need a VPN to access them. Here Tyler showcased a couple of NA ones (whose names we won’t mention so as not to promote them).
The bets open as Tyler accepts the game and you can bet on his or the other team. Now here’s the issue: you can almost tell the results of the game already judging by which team has more betters.
- If there are more bettors on Tyler’s team, they will bet on the other team and int the game to cash out. Tyler loses
- If there are more bettors on the other team, then Tyler wins
Thus, the already circus galore that is NA high-elo pubs turn even more unbearable as it just becomes a griefing clown fiesta for money. Any remaining semblance of ranked matchmaking integrity is lost as the games turn nightmarish for popular streamers.
The worst part? Riot doesn’t care. Tyler1 had been doing his part reporting any bettors he encountered in his games. At first a couple of them got banned, then after a few weeks, nothing happens, noone gets banned, the betting sites are still up and running and the circus continued.
But if there’s 1 thing you need to know about Tyler1, it’s that he ain’t no damsel in distress. The mad lad decided to take matters into his own hands and rig the bets live with his viewers. At 9:15 in the video Tyler betted lose along with his viewers and lost the game. His hope is that if the odds are always rigged in his games, the betting sites will have to remove his games from their platform.
Tyler1 later clarified that he does not have anything against the gambling itself but with more with the bettors griefing to rig the bets. His efforts paid off as the betting sites removed his games. But the problems persist in high-elo games if the bettors just move on to other high-profile players instead and Tyler gets in a game with them.
So, it’s really up to Riot to step in and take some measures against this. Either ban the bettors who are well-known at this point, or better police which (betting) sites have access to their API.
