Finally, VALORANT players will be able to opt-out of frustrating games, as there is a surrender feature around the corner.
VALORANT senior producer Ian Fielding explained in today’s blog post that a surrender option is being “introduced with Patch 1.02.” Not much more information on the feature has been provided, but fans will be able to read about it in the Patch 1.02 notes.
A data miner found unconfirmed intel in the game’s files, giving the community some insight into what it might look like when it goes live. After queueing a surrender vote, a “yes” consensus will likely activate on the next available round. And players may only be able to surrender from round eight and on, and only once per half. This could potentially have been set up to dissuade discouraged players from spamming the option of surrender every round.
If that’s how the feature will appear in 1.02 isn’t clear, then Valorant’s Executive Producer, Anna Donlon, admitted it was “a complex feature and it’s still being tested” when the leak emerged first.
Executive producer Anna “SuperCakes” Donlon touched on a few other features in the Twitter thread on the horizon. A “reporter response tool” is used to notify players when the offender has been punished. And tools to support streamers, such as an anonymous mode for usernames, will come early. However, SuperCakes has not given a specific timeline for these features.
The Battle Pass and criticisms it has attracted over the fact that the game doesn’t award Valorant Points when unlocking tiers, and thus the means to purchase another one, were also addressed in the Q and A. It’s a popular model that has been adopted by the likes of Fortnite, but one that Joe Lee, Revenue Lead, feels is devaluing the pass. “Our goal is that when you buy a battle pass, you buy it for the total value of it rather than buying it as a way of getting enough currency to buy the next one,” which feels like he is saying “you want to buy a pass and get another pass for free?”.
Joe does, however, have a promise that they will continue to “study” the battle pass and “make sure that the content within it justifies the price.” More uses for Radiante Points, which can currently only be used to upgrade certain skins, are also on the horizon with Joe confirming that players will soon be able to “buy more Gun Buddies, upgrade Player Cards and Sprays.”
There is no official release date for patch 1.02 but going off historic release patterns it should be coming out some point early next week.
