League next champion’s details on its origins and abilities have been leaked on Riot’s champion roadmap for April 2021. The champion is set to be a “non-traditional marksman” in mid lane with ties to the lore of Senna and Lucian as a fellow Sentinel of Light.

League’s 156th champion design, abilities and more
Unlike other traditional marksmen who were designed for bot lane, its kit will be tailor-made for the role. According to the translated roadmap that was shared on Reddit a few days ago, the champion’s identity is a mid lane maskman. Lucian, Corki and Tristana are also recently showing up in mid lane but do not likely a champion specifically designed for this role as they lack some common identities of mid lane champion such as roaming or solo lane focused kits. “We think mid lane maskman is a unique role in our champion lineup, and it can attract some players who enjoy mid lane assassins or fighters.”
The leaked champion roadmap included two images: one of a Shuriman village being swamped by the Black Mist, and another of some kind of hook. This could be a hint of their background story and a preview kit featuring a grapple.

The new champion is described as a “Sentinel of Light,” implying that their lore will be deeply intertwined with Senna, Lucian, and their fight against Viego and the rest of the Ruination.
The Sentinels of Light are an ancient hunter order formed in the Blessed Isles. And obviously, the creatures of the Shadow Isles become their mortal enemies. However, most of the Sentinels of Light across Runeterra are dead, except Daowan, who helped defend Ionia from the Black Mist. This could be the new champion joining the League lineup, but it’s just speculation at this stage.
Regardless, as the Ruined King game set to release in2021, Riot plans to bring out a lot of content on this part of Runeterra lore.

It certainly will be some time until League 156th champion shows up following Gwen launching at League patch 11.8.
