Worlds 2022 Final MVP: Kingen from DRX

Kingen, the team’s top laner, was voted the finals MVP when DRX defeated fellow LCK representative T1 to win the Summoner’s Cup and win the 2022 League of Legends World Championship.

Kingen carried DRX to victory in this series by demonstrating his strengths through effective laning and teamfighting. Kingen specifically won the honor in games four and five, scoring a cumulative score of 11/3/12 and facing Aatrox in both games.

Kingen defeated T1 top laner Zeus solo in game five, providing DRX an early lead in the laning phase. As they did in games two and four as well, the squad built on its lead top side to win the series finale through Kingen.

Kingen played three games on Aatrox, one on Camille, and one on Ornn in the championship. According to League metrics website Oracle’s Elixir, in three of the five games in this series, he was the DRX leader in damage per minute.

Throughout the domestic league, I’m pretty sure I was underperforming. Unlike how I look, I actually hesitate a lot. A lot of fans were frustrated because I was not going for the aggressive plays, but heading into this Worlds, our coach Ssong, he always told me, ‘the one who hesitates is the one who loses,’ and that has become a motto for play.

Kingen

Kingen is the first top laner to do it since Marin did it with SK Telecom T1 in 2015 as the Worlds finals MVP.
