The League of Legends World Championship group stage has ended after 50 matches spread across eight exciting days in New York. After the groups were finished, the initial pairings for the tournament’s knockout stage were chosen at random.
T1, JD Gaming, DRX, and Gen.G received the top seeds in their respective groups during the group stage, guaranteeing that they would play a team who placed second in the group in the first round of the knockout tournament. The second seeds from the group stage were Royal Never Give Up, Edward Gaming, DWG KIA, and Rogue. To determine who would be the top seed in three of the four groups, a tiebreaker was necessary.
After the World Championship quarterfinals, the competition will leave New York City and travel once more for the semifinals, which will start on October 29 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Worlds championship matches will conclude on November 5 in San Francisco, California.
Eight teams will compete for this weekend in one best-of-five match every day, with four teams leaving the competition by the time the quarterfinal round concludes on October 23.
