“Most frustrating champs” – Yuumi is getting a big rework in 2023

Finally, Yuumi the Cat is going to be reworked!

Due to a bothersome feline champion during the past year, League of Legends gamers have swiftly developed a dislike for cats. One of the most notorious supports in the game, Yuumi is dangerous to deal with in both solo queue and competitive play. Fortunately, Riot Games has a redesign of the Curious Cat planned for the following year.

Riot planning to rework Yuumi

“We think there’s a better place for Yuumi where we can deliver on her gameplay fantasy for her players while also making her less frustrating to play against, We’re giving her a decently sized nerf to temporarily address some of her more frustrating features and curbing her power in both elite and pro play. However, we definitely don’t see this as the final, long-term solution for this champion.”

Riot on patch 12.23 notes

Whether it was her supremacy over the international competition scene or her regular play time in ranked play, Yuumi’s effectiveness in 2022 has been well-documented. For instance, according to Oracle’s Elixir, at the 2022 World Championship, this killer kitty was prohibited in 85% of all games during the group stage of the competition, with a 100% win percentage in the eight games she snuck through the draft.

According to League analytics aggregator U.GG, Yuumi has remained a top-choice support for the last five patches in the solo queue. The fact that Yuumi hasn’t been as successful in ranked play as she has been in pro play, though, shows how much better professionals are at using the champion’s complete kit than solo queue players.

In order to reduce a player’s propensity to quit their bottom lane duo throughout a match, Riot instead wants to strengthen counterplay against Yuumi while she’s attached to an ally but also make her more dependent on her lane’s success. Devs are also working to reduce her powerful crowd control output, scaling, and damage while highlighting her defensive skills.

When Riot publishes the upcoming Quick Gameplay Thoughts, further information regarding this rework will be available.
