A longtime member of Riot’s champions design team shared that Aurelion Sol’s appearance is 10 points but his skill set is too bad.
Aurelion Sol rework
Reworking champions in the last few years is almost mandatory for Riot Games as League of Legends gets more and more new champions, accompanied by many old champions becoming obsolete.
Rework is also many types, lightweight, keep the entire skillset but add a few new features to make the champion more new (Wukong is the latest example), retaining 2-3 skills and change the remaining outdated details (Fiddlesticks and Volibear).
And the last and the biggest rework is complete rework, which means that Riot will only retain that champion’s name and change everything from skill, appearance.
Aatrox is the latest example when this champion after remake almost no longer any trace of the old Aatrox, except the ability to revive, which will later be deleted. This rework only applies to champions with badly designed skills and need to change 100% only.
There are very few such champions in League of Legends right now, even the early champions like Annie is not so bad that a skill set is too bad.
However, according to what Riot August – a senior member of the champion design team – Aurelion Sol is a name that needs to be completely redone like Aatrox, 10/10 appearance but Aurelion Sol’s skill set is extremely bad and need to do again.
Riot August: “Did you guys ask about Aurelion Sol’s visual upgrades? I don’t think it needs a visual upgrade, Aurelion Sol needs a comprehensive gameplay upgrade like the Aatrox remake to make things clear. I think the face, image, 10/10, we should remove all his techniques and remake completely and turn Aurelion Sol into the coolest space dragon possible.
I think an Aatrox-like update to Aurelion Sol will be terrific because that character has so much potential to exploit. “
Aurelion Sol’s skill set is not really weak at the moment, the problem here is that it makes the player extremely unhappy when using the skills.
The idea of a DPS champion is pretty good, but just pushing a W button and you’re done is a bad design.
Another example of a DPS-style Wizard, Azir, is much better, at least you have to click continuously for sand soldiers to attack, though not too complicated but create a demand for action with gamers.
Not to mention that Aurelion Sol’s gameplay is not too mutant, you simply fly with E, present in combat and press W.
This is a game that is too lacking in a fast-paced game like League of Legends. Therefore, it is understandable that this dragon has a lower and lower selection rate.
Pulsefire event and URF mode comeback
Previously, a few senior Riot Games representatives had confirmed that they would rework a champion, not in the previous poll, and in combination with what Riot August said above, it is likely that name is Aurelion Sol.
