After traveling to Europe for the 2021 World Championship, one of the most well-known players in professional League of Legends, Faker, expressed about solo queue in his area.
Faker and his opinion on KR Solo queue
Recently, a Reddit user pointed out a clip of Faker comparing the solo queue quality of his country to Europe. Specifically, during his stream, T1’s starting mid-laner, stated that solo queue games on the Korean server are even worse than those on the EU server, where he played while in Reykjavik, Iceland.
While saying this, he displayed his Korean server match history, which was mostly with defeats caused by AFK teammates and remakes. The litany of defeats went on for a long time, practically all of them are Challenger rank.
He refers to the manner of Korean solo queue games, claiming that, more than any other area, games in Korea are decided in few minutes or end quickly owing to teammates’ performance. “The thing is, the Korean solo queue quality is so low, compared to EU.”
Much of the “low quality” he mentions is likely due to his popularity, as well as the fact that his League username is visible on his Twitch stream. He once faced win-trading and gambling problems before, making his solo queue experience a complete disaster.
Given Faker’s prominence as the most iconic League of Legends player, though, it’s not surprising that he’s having problems. Perhaps Korean players should take even more precautions when playing solo queue, especially for famous and well-known League players.
