League of Legends: Funneling will be got rid of in patch 11.9

You will no longer be able to use “funneling” (the Taric-Master Yi strategy) to reach your wishing rank after the next patch comes.

A few hours ago, Mark Yetter – the Gameplay Design Director for LoL, published a lot of information about our upcoming patch. The most remarkable thing about this patch is that Turbo Chemtank, Dead Man’s Plate, and Hecarim will be all nerfed. The reason for this is that patch 11.9 will be used for MSI 2021 and Riot really don’t want to see Hecarim and Udyr dominating the jungle anymore.

Hecarim and Udyr have been the lords of the jungle for many recent patches

Additionally, apart from those balancing changes, they also gave us some noticeable news about “funneling” – the strategy of using the duo of Taric and Master Yi. Specifically, if Taric has used his E – Dazzle before Master Yi uses his Q – Alpha Strike, the former will completely disappear, which means they cannot stun anyone. Also, this skill will also not work with the ones making your champion invisible in a while like Shaco’s R or Kayn’s R.

Before this change comes, just with an easy combo of Dazzle – Alpha Strike, this duo can stun their target every time they use it. Master Yi is extremely well-known with his high DPS and with an unavoidable stun, he will obviously become a monster at the late game. However, starting from patch 11.9, this frightening ability of this duo will be deleted and thousands of weaknesses of Master Yi will be made use of.

Hashinshin was also the one who had been sick of this strategy

It can be easily seen that those changes will only solve the problem of the Taric – Master Yi strategy. They have not had any influences on Support items and their gold penalty, so that “funneling” will not be completely knocked out of the game. Probably, if those changes are applied, a huge disadvantage will lessen the Support role, so Riot don’t want to take a risk, especially in the patch used for MSI.
