This marks the 8th LEC title for midlane legend Caps. It is also the first cour of the super popular new LEC format.

G2 has had a successful 2022, placing 1st in LEC Spring season, 2nd in Summer season, 3-4th at MSI 2022 and culminating in a 11-14th at Worlds 2022. However their spotlight was taken by KOI (formerly Rogue) whose late season’s form saw them knocking G2 off the top spot in Summer playoffs and having been the only Western team to get out of Worlds Group Stage, eventually placing 5-8th.

Their public image also suffered after the recent Carlos Ocelote’s controversy with Andrew Tate

It didn’t take long for the European squad to bounce back however. Revamping their roster with Yike, Hans Sama and Mikyx (replacing Jankos, Flakked and Targamas respectively), G2 once again asserted their dominance over the region. They defeated both main competitors KOI and MAD in the playoffs to take home the 1st newly formatted LEC title, $40,000 prize money and a spot at the prestigious Mid-season Invitational set in London this year.

It also marks the return to form for French legend Hans Sama, who had had a disappointing season with Team Liquid in the NA LCS.
