Ikumi Nakamura, best known for her work on games like Bayonetta, The Evil Within, and Ghostwire: Tokyo, was spotted inside the Riot headquarters. Is this a precursor to a new Riot Forge game?
We are already aware of a number of the projects Riot Forge has planned for us. Nunu & Willump will soon have their own adventure game, and a forthcoming platform game centered on Ekko has already been hinted at here.
But now that Ikumi Nakamura has shown up at Riot HQ, we have high hopes for a more gritty and edgy game that might actually materialize. She reportedly only visited Riot HQ, so for the time being all of this is just conjecture, but come on… Anything is possible, right? Lil Nas X visited Riot HQ and overnight became the president of League of Legends.
Who is Ikumi Nakamura?
Ikumi Nakamura is well-known. When the game Ghostwire: Tokyo was revealed at the 2019 E3 press conference, she was the star of the show. She contributed to the game but left midway through because of health problems. What has she been doing ever since? She established her own studio, called UNSEEN Inc.
Given that Nakamura is the CEO and that she has worked on titles like Bayonetta and The Evil Within, wouldn’t a horror/mystery Riot Forge game make perfect sense? Runeterra has plenty of frightening tales, so we can absolutely see Riot collaborating with UNSEEN Inc. to bring it about.
Of course, we could be jumping the gun, but Riot Forge is a game publisher that collaborates with independent game creators to bring the world of Runeterra to our fingertips through fresh games and novel experiences. Who says we can’t have a horror game as well? We already have a rhythm game, and we’re getting an adventure game soon.
There are countless options. Nakamura might, however, have simply been at Riot HQ because DetonatioN FocusMe, a member of the LJL, was competing against RNG, the fourth-seeded player in the LPL, and she wanted to watch the action from LoL Worlds. Who genuinely knows, but we can only speculate at this moment.
