Jensen broke the worldwide record previously held by another Cloud9 alumni, Sneaky.
The Danish has now appeared at Worlds 8 times in a row (2015-2022) surpassing Sneaky’s 7 (2013-2019). Sneaky has since retired from pro League, while Jensen will have the opportunity to extend his record in the coming years.
The 27-year-old midlaner spent his whole League career playing in the NA LCS and became synonymous with NA LoL despite being a full-blooded European. He’s often compared to Liquid.Bjergsen, another NA Danish midlaner whom he’s had a rivalry with as they both have been in highly competitive squads.
Jensen appeared at Worlds 3 times under Team Liquid banner (2019, 2020, 2021) and 5 times under Cloud9 so far. His consistency is impressive, being on top of competitive LoL for so long across different teams and rosters.
Jensen’s C9 stuns a dominant EG 3-1 to secure their spot at this year’s Worlds
Coming into the upper bracket round 2, EG were the heavy favorites as they crushed the regular LCS Summer season with a 15-3 series score, topping the groups and being 1st seed. They were also champions of the Spring Split and were looking unstoppable. Meanwhile Cloud9 were 5th in the groups and only managed a 10-8 series score.
Yet all those statistics remains just numbers. Once the draft is finished and the champions are ready, it’s anyone’s game, and today it is Cloud9’s. Jensen and the crew convincingly crushed EG 3-1 off of amazing drafts and solid performances all around from its star-studded lineup.
With this result, Cloud9 became the 10th team to qualify for Worlds 2022. Cloud9 as an org has also only missed Worlds once in 2020 since their induction in LCS. EG on the other hand will have to try and survive the lower bracket against the likes of TSM, Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming. It also means that either EG or Liquid will miss this year’s Worlds as only top 3 will make it, a big surprise for those who followed the regular summer season.
C9 will face 100 Thieves for a spot in the Grand Finals, while EG cannot misstep against TSM in the lower bracket.
Pro League of Legends has never been more competitive across all regions. Lots of series have come to 5 games, and it feels as if anyone can pull off something Cloud9 did, an unusual trend as League was traditionally a very 1-sided moba. Hopefully the trend continues and we’re treated with more high-stakes breathtakingly beautiful gameplay from the best LoL players around the world.
