Update on League MMORPG from dev: “There was actually a strategy in place here!”

Since its early announcement last year, the devs of a League of Legends MMORPG have been kept quiet. The Riot Games team working on the project has made no public announcements about the game, and its development is still in its early phases.

Riot Games dev explained why they are still not providing more information regarding League MMORPG

Executive Producer Greg Street responded to one of the team’s most commonly asked questions recently on Twitter: Why was the “announcement” for the League MMO so unconventional?

Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street discussed the issue of giving too much information about the League MMO presently under development, and why the team is opting to slow things down.

Regardless of League MMORPG being confirmed to be in development in 2020, Riot has made no big announcements about it. Because the game is still in production, the team wants to have the creative flexibility to adjust things as they go rather than being bound to certain plans.

And, rather than appealing to everyone at once, they want to hire people who are interested in the MMO project while simultaneously establishing a loyal fan base.

“We thought it made sense to low key announce to help with recruiting (we need a lot of MMO vets), to excite players”

“When developers are under a lot of pressure because they know players are so eager, it can make it harder to toss out designs that aren’t working.”

Fans of the forthcoming game may become emotionally connected to the first features of the product presented to them, resulting in unneeded controversy when the final product is quite different.

Thus, Street indicated that greater trust in the product is required before an official announcement or reveal can take place.

“We will do big announcements and answer big questions when we have more confidence that the direction will stick,”

“We don’t need 100% confidence. But we need more than we have today.”

Fans of the League of Legends and potential MMORPG gamers can expect further information from the devs in the coming months.

The League MMO does not yet have a release date, but fans should expect it later down the road because development is still in its early phases.
