According to various sources, the 2022 League of Legends MSI ‘Mid-Season Invitational’ will be held in South Korea
This year’s Mid-Season Invitational will be held in South Korea. This is the country’s first MSI and the first League international event in South Korea since 2018. For the time being, the actual dates and sites of the 2022 MSI are unconfirmed.
Korea was the only major country that did not host an MSI till now, and the country’s most recent international competition was Worlds 2018.
South Korea has among of the strictest COVID-19 regulations in the world, making arranging a huge event during the epidemic a difficult task. Just a few weeks back then, Gen.G had most of the roster self-quarantined due to the COVID-19 incidents from their jungler Peanut.
The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted Riot Games’ preparation for big events in recent years, including the necessity to relocate Worlds 2021 from China to Europe. Though the League Championship Series in NA returned to in-person play, but the virus remains a source of worry in terms of location and communication.
The Mid-Season Invitational’s return to South Korea also marks its return to one of the strongest regions following the interruptions caused by the COVID-19 outbreak in the previous two years.
South Korea’s first MSI is a turning point for the League’s most successful country. Based on past years’ dates, the 2022 MSI is likely to begin between the final week of April and the first week of May. The winners of 12 major leagues from across the world will compete in the event.
