The start of the 2023 League of Legends season was disastrous; maybe Riot is trying something to spice up the fanbase again?
Riot just published a new dev video intended for their Chinese audience in which Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee, Executive Producer of League of Legends, discussed what fans may expect on the Rift.

Riot is making some changes to their ranked season this year. While there have been ranked resets in the middle of the year, Riot has opted to break 2023 into two ranked splits this time.
Riot Brightmoon discusses in the Chinese dev blog how certain things did not go as anticipated in 2022, but that fans can expect more interesting things in 2023, such as greater communication with more dev blogs and a new cinematic.
“I’m really excited for the future of League. We have an exciting Season Start CG (cinematic) coming, which I hope you’ll be excited about.”
Riot has also lately tried to include new skin thematics into League of Legends. However, it appears Riot is keeping their half of the pact when they stated that they wanted more skin thematics to come to League of Legends and be related to certain events more frequently.
Riot Brightmoon especially mentioned the Porcelain skin line. It was quite popular among the fandom, and Riot hopes to bring it back.
This might imply that the cinematic that was missing at the start of the season will be included. Because ranked is divided into two halves this year, we may see a cinematic for the second half of the ranked season in 2023.
While this was not confirmed and was just hinted at by Riot Brightmoon, it might imply that we will still receive some kind of season kickoff midway through the year. Riot will hopefully provide more light on this, and we will know more in the near future.
