One of League’s famous Rioter will retire from casting in the upcoming Season 2023

After a decade as the voice of NA League of Legends, one of the game’s most-known commentators is leaving the broadcast and embarking on a new position

After an amazing 10-year career, Phreak announced his resignation from casting to join the League of Legends balancing team in 2023. For the whole decade, Phreak, a renowned shoutcaster across League’s esports in general, has been one of the most prominent voices chronicling those events.

Phreak stated his intention to resign in a video on his YouTube channel titled simply “I’m Retiring from Shoutcasting.”

“I am moving on to be a game designer for League of Legends on the Summoner’s Rift team,”

“Casting for the last 10 years has been an amazing experience, a dream come true but there’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and it’s to be a game designer.”

Riot David “Phreak” Turley has announced his retirement from shoutcasting and will join Riot Games’ Summoner’s Rift team as a game designer.

It’s no secret that Phreak is interested in game design, since he constantly discusses aspects of the game’s balance with each new patch. When he originally applied to work at Riot, he supposedly sought to be a part of the game design team, and he was interested in working in a similar role for Blizzard on Starcraft II.

Phreak’s experience as a League caster, as well as the many talks and contacts he’s made with other game designers he’s met during his career, should help him make judgments as part of the balancing team at Riot.

The statement sparked a frenzy in the professional League of Legends community, with many co-workers, players, and fans wishing Phreak well and thanking him on his fantastic 10 years of casting.
