Mayumi signed contract with INTZ at the beginning of the year at 17 and recently turned 18. She looked good in an exhibition tournament but never played an officially regular season game – before disappearing off INTZ on the Global Contract Database.
Esports is a sport that need to ensure balance and fairness, not only in the game but also the relationship between the players. For some reason, female gamers are often not taken seriously, even if their talents are as good as their male counterparts.
Recently, the female player who used to be a part of INTZ – Mayumi decided to file a lawsuit against her old team for ignoring when the male players have teased her too much, even if she was in commission staff of INTZ.
Júlia “Mayumi” Nakamura is a female gamer with mixed descent between Brazil and Japan. The beautiful girl born in 2002 immediately attracted attention by her captivating beauty. However, this is also the reason why she was teased by a series of colleagues not only in INTZ, even being suffered obscene and unacceptable words on Stream Twitch. At the end of May, she decided to leave INTZ after 10 months on the Brazil LoL team.
Things continue to get more complicated, recently, Mayumi filed a lawsuit against INTZ. The two reasons are given that she was harassed by her colleagues and INTZ almost only uses her image for advertising purposes instead of helping her career join in professional competition as male does.
This violates the contractual principles, according to what Mayumi has shared. She will continue to be active in eSports field in the future since this is her passion.
In the professional gaming worldwide, a series of female players appeared but then they haven’t have good outcomes. Some gamers choose to retire to switch to Stream, some may not even endure the long pressures leading to depression and eventually suicide, as in the case of the only female LCS player ever, Remi.
In the past, Riot Games itself also faced many allegations of disrespect of feminism within the organization itself. Perhaps it is necessary to introduce appropriate laws and policies soon, in order to protect women in the League of Legends environment as well as the eSports world as soon as possible.
