After modifying event prizes twice, it appears that the upcoming Prestige skin change will result in even fewer benefits for players
Last year, Riot teased a huge change to the Prestige and Mythic skin tiers, with Gemstones becoming Mythic Essence and an annual rotating Mythic Store. According to a dev blog posted about a month ago, Riot is thinking about making Mythic skins, the rarest tier of skins, more accessible. Many of these will be gained through the use of Gemstones or Prestige Points, both of which are planned to be phased away in favor of a new currency known as Mythic Essence.
However, with the details have been revealed, it appears that fans will receive even fewer rewards than they do today.
Players are getting fewer rewards due to the changes
Riot’s claimed that their aims in redesigning Prestige and Mythic skins were that Hextech and related offers weren’t meeting expectations as luxury skins for players to work their way up.
For now, the champion selection, along with the design, implies that fewer players are attempting to obtain Mythic skins than Riot would. Riot stated that by combining Prestige and Mythic skins into a single currency, which is Mythic Essence, it hopes to give fans more options when it comes to higher-tier skins.
But, players were caught surprised when Ken Adams, a product lead on events, loot, and skins, revealed the contents of the modifications.
The new Event Pass currency for Prestige and Mythic skins was revealed to be significantly worse than the existing one. Currently, Event Passes provide 2 Gemstones and 25 Prestige Points.
The new pass is expected to provide 25 Mythic Essence, although the older provide far greater value, at around 45 Mythic Essence. Furthermore, the price of Mythic and Prestige skins will rise to the equivalent of 12,5 Gemstones.
Fans were quick to express their dissatisfaction with the modifications, and it appears that Riot is paying attention to them. Players might expect more rewards to the passes when it arrives on the live server.
