Off-screen pings are anticipated to be included in Patch 13.3
Riot Games revealed in Preseason 2023 that they will be updating the existing system and introducing additional ways of communication, such as vision and off-screen pings. The off-screen ping system was postponed, despite the fact that the majority of the changes were implemented.
Fortunately, Riot confirmed in a recent Reddit post that the off-screen features will be implemented in Patch 13.3.
Off-screen pings in Patch 13.3
Off-screen pings are notices that appear on the screen’s edge when an ally ping. This notice will show who was pinging and what sort of ping was applied. According to Riot, the system is nearly finished, and they are putting the finishing touches on it.
For the off-screen pings, working on a few separate bits:
- Some icon readability issues.
- Making it work well for colourblind players.
- Making it properly snap to the HUD.
- Providing some small onboarding, so folks know how to turn it on/off.
League of Legends is a team-based game, and like with any team-based game, effective communication is required to win. Voice chat is the most effective way to interact with the team. Because League of Legends lacks voice communication, the ping system is presently the only alternative.
The ping mechanism was added to the game many years ago. And prior to the preseason 2023, Riot made a few changes to the ping feature. Some were nice, and some were toxic as hell, but overall, the updates were straightforward. Hopefully, the new off-screen pings will aid in another level of communication for the players.
The new feature will be added to the live servers with Patch 13.3, which will be issued on February 8, 2023.
