Riot has promised to bring back LoL cinematic after 2023 massive criticism
Riot Games received controversy after releasing the League of Legends 2023 season video. Fortunately, the company learnt their mistake and is working hard to offer a better one next year.
Riot released ‘The Brink of Infinity’ earlier this year as a seasonal cinematic for 2023. And it was, without a doubt, Riot’s most depressing cinematic.
The two-minute video was nothing like the amazing champion-based spectaculars that fans have come to expect over the years. In reality, there was not even a single champion. Instead, it included a voiceover and a travelling scene of Summoner’s Rift that paid homage to some of League’s most iconic esports events.
Riot to bring back season start cinematic
On a Reddit post about a month ago, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, the head of League studio, stated only recently that the game will have a “start cinematic next year in January.”
Meddler provided no information. Nonetheless, this might indicate that the developers are returning to bringing their high-tier quality regarding cinematics following the poor reaction this year.
Riot even had to step up and explain of impending outrage. Due to “unprecedented circumstances,” the company noted that it had to take a different approach to the video, but it still thought it “embodied League’s broad universe and competitive spirit.”
Riot also recognized that the communication should have been better, and they accepted the issue, giving supporters optimism that the 2024 cinematic will be of greater quality.
We can only hope that the planned cinematic for the 2024 season will be worth the wait, having been convinced by Meddler’s words.
