Riot shares early adjustments they’re already working on for first patch of season 2023

Sneak peek of Riot’s early adjustments of 2023

Riot Games is about to go on vacation for the holidays, meaning there won’t be another League of Legends patch until next year. To get us psyched for 2023, Riot devs previewed some of the improvements that players might expect.

On December 12, League’s lead designer, Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, announced a series of improvements that the developer team hopes to release at the start of next year. Rod of Ages, Jak’Sho, The Protean, Seraph’s Embrace, and Radiant Virtue are the targets of these modifications.

Phroxzon did not explain why Riot is working on adjustments to these items in particular, although they make sense given how effective they are in the meta.  Jak’Sho, The Protean, for example, rapidly became one of the best items after Heartsteel adjustments.

According to U.GG, many tank champions have some of the highest win rates in the game as a result of this item. The developers, according to Phroxzon, seek to make it “neutral on tanks and weaker on fighters.”

Rod of Ages made a comeback in this year’s preseason and has since become a must-have item for champions like Ryze or Kassadin. With Phroxzon dubbing it “ROA satisfaction,” it appears that the devs isn’t completely content with the item and will strive to improve it next year.

Radiant Virtue is also one of the new items added in the most recent preseason that hasn’t been as well received as others. Riot recognizes this and intends to alter it so that it becomes a viable choice for more champions in season 13.

The earliest these modifications will be implemented is January 4, although it is unclear when they will be introduced on live servers. With Riot on vacation, the devs will most likely lack the time to devote to balancing.
