Riot explained why Eclipse was nerfed in Patch 12.19

Riot has now confirmed their explanation for nerfing one of the game’s most powerful items

The item redesign and arrival of mythic items significantly shifted the meta. The goal of mythic items was to broaden the build options for each champion in the game. As a result, Riot provided mythic items to every class and role in the game.

Eclipse is one of the most recently broken mythic items. Eclipse was initially intended to be an Assassin item, but many bruisers began to use it later on. The item was previously underappreciated due to Goredrinker and many other mythic items.

However, with the Durability Update, many players began to lean towards Eclipse and recognized how broken it was. Rhaast (Red Kayn) and Aatrox are two notable champions who have lately exploited the item.

Riot eventually nerfed Eclipse, along with Master Yi and Rek’sai, in patch 12.19 after many months. Shortly after so, Riot Phroxzon explains why they nerfed the Mythic item.

Eclipse Nerfs in Patch 12.19

Eclipse has a unique passive in which striking an opposing champion with two different attacks or abilities within 1.5 seconds does additional AD damage and grants the user a shield.

Eclipse, according to RiotPhroxzon, was intended to be a risk and reward item for bruisers. However, because to its durability, high damage, and Armor pen, it has generous scaling in the early game. As a result, winning a 1v1 with the item was significantly simpler than with the other mythic items. The same is true for assassins.

The assassins are designed to be soft but powerful. With its sustain, assassins may easily win every single duel in the game without losing much health. As a result, Riot nerfed the item’s lethality, and increase the AD scaling by 5.
