Riot Games: Definitely no Project L in 2021

It is totally a pity for players who have been waiting for Project L – the fighting game first introduced two years ago…

Project L was first introduced in EVO 2019 when Tom Cannon revealed that he had been working with Riot Games on a fighting game. After that, on the 10th anniversary, Riot Games officially announced this game, but so far, we have not had too much information about it. According to the news published, this brand new fighting game is being assisted with the graphics by Tom Cannon – the co-founder of Evolution Championship Series (EVO).

Evolution Championship Series (EVO) has been originally known as the biggest Esport tournament specializing in fighting games, which annually takes place in Las Vegas. One of the co-founders of this tournament is Tom Cannon and yesterday, he shared some fascinating news about Project L on his own Twitter.

Project L seems to be a 2.5D fighting game similar to the legendary fighting game Street Fighter V. At the first look, some original functions and rules remain the same. For example, every round will last for 90 seconds. Besides, Riot Games is creating the system measuring how many hits or combos have been dealt, just like other fighting games.

So far, Riot Games has not officially confirmed that whether or not they are using GGPO NetCode on Project L. This is an intermediate app designed to help players to have the best experience on a game, which is called the “Source Engine” of fighting games. However, a lot of people said that Riot Games would make use of this app as it was totally free and allowed them to use it unlimitedly.

Tom Cannon also posted on his Twitter that they planned to make a dev diary of this game at the end of this year. Thanks to it, players would have a more specific look about the developing path of Project L. The previous game project of Riot – Project A, or we usually call it Valorant now, has been extremely successful and we hope that Project L will also be that good.
