Riot has stated that beginning with set 9 of TFT, third-party websites will no longer have the right to share data pertaining to particular Legends and Augments’ win rates, and here’s why
After the debut of Augment in Set 6, the popular auto battler TFT has gotten significantly more sophisticated over the years. Set 9 has added Legends, a tool for players to customise their augment choices to best fit their playstyle.
We’ve witnessed an increase in third-party websites that offer data about the game with the introduction of augments. However, one of the most essential metrics that these websites provided concerned augments and their relative win rates.
Riot is tightening down on these sites with the release of TFT Set 9: Runeterra Reforged, forbidding them from publishing any data concerning win rates for different Legends and Augments.
Riot Mortdog explained why Augment and Legend win-rate data is banned in TFT Set 9
Riot Mort, Teamfight Tactics’ Lead Designer, explained why this update was coming on his broadcast.
“With the release of Runeterra Reforged, third-party sites will not be allowed to share any data around the performance of individual legends, and in a month third-party sites will no longer be allowed to expose the performance data of specific augments.”
“It’s not about removing ways to learn and in fact we think the stats have actually done a harm to being able to learn.”
“It’s about creating a more subjective reality so that people can talk about it and people can have a conversation. That’s the big thing here and I think it’s going to be healthy in the long term.”
Basically, Mortdog believed that stats and win rates concerning TFT Augments have harmed the way the game is supposed to be played. Players would rely heavily on the mere stats of the Augments to play it, rather than finding out how to use it effectively in each game.
Ultimately, some Augments could become underwhelming or overwhelming, which would lead to misunderstanding between the community and the developers and the annoying problems of balancing the stats.
Nonetheless, the developer emphasised that the modification may be reversed if it has a negative influence on the game.
This contentious update will be implemented with TFT Set 9, which is set to be live on June 14, 2023.
