For League of Legends fans, the ranked struggle is about to get a lot more fascinating
Riot Games disclosed a number of significant improvements to League’s ranked mode in a recent development blog post.
To keep it short, there will be a new Emerald rank for summoners to explore, sandwiched between the Platinum and Diamond levels. Players should notice a much more balanced rank distribution percentage with generally even numbers from Silver to Platinum with the addition of this new level.
Furthermore, Riot will remove promotional series from the ranking climb following years of player complaints about how annoying promotions can be while attempting to reach new heights. Since the introduction of ranked over a decade ago, players have always feared promotions, from stumbling into griefers to suffering with a streak of bad games.
The burden of continually pounding through ranked promotions for ranks exceeds the benefits of the drama and excitement they would offer, so players may just rank up when they have the necessary quantity of LP.
Because the majority of ranking climbers have already completed their 10 placement games for the first split, players will only be required to complete five placement games for the second split of the year.
Riot has also decided to preserve the five-game placement tweak for next year, meaning players may now find out their position in half the time.
Finally, Riot is planning a slew of adjustments to make it easy to obtain a rank and advance up the ranks. Moving ahead, these adjustments should offer a far more realistic picture of the player base and where they genuinely belong on the ranking system.
On July 17, the League’s first ranked split of 2023 will come to an end. These modifications are expected to take effect when the second split begins immediately after the first one concludes.
